James Barlow (Randolph Scott) is a federal agent who is assigned to bring an end to the reign of terror brought on by a gang of train robbers. Barlow infiltrates the gang and discovers that they have been paying off local officials and finds himself caught in the middle of the 'good' and the 'bad' guys. Based on the exploits of the infamous Reno gang, the first train robbers in American history.
Trivia: Frank Reno is played by Forrest Tucker, who starred in the TV series F-Troop as well as the ill fated Dusty's Trail; he also starred opposite John Wayne in the 1970 western Chisum. Brother Clint Reno is played by Denver Pyle, who starred as Uncle Jesse in the 1980s tv series The Dukes of Hazzard; he was also was featured in the immortal John Ford movie, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
