The sole survivor of an ambush of a group of Texas Rangers, John Reid is thought dead. His childhood companion Tonto finds him and nurses him back to health. Together they decide to take advantage of the situation and become the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

Trivia: Tristram Coffin (Ranger Captain Reed) starred as an Arizona Ranger in the TV series, 26 Men. Canadian born Jay Silverheels (Tonto) was a member of the Mohawk tribe. Glenn Strange went on to play Sam the bartender on the classic Gunsmoke TV series.
